Proof That Pigs Are Just Giant Puppies

This lovely girl originally came to us after being sold as a “micro pig” — something that became incredibly popular for a while, especially online and across social media.

The idea of a pig that stayed tiny forever sounded adorable to many people. Photos of piglets curled up on sofas quickly captured hearts, and suddenly “micro”, “teacup” and “mini” pigs were everywhere.

But as time went on, many owners discovered their pigs weren’t actually staying micro at all.

While some pigs are naturally smaller than commercial farm breeds, there is no truly “tiny forever” pig. Many of these pigs simply grew into healthy adult pigs, much larger than people had expected. Unfortunately, because so many people were unprepared for that reality, rescue centres and sanctuaries began seeing more and more pigs needing new homes.

The saddest part is that the pigs themselves were never the problem.

In fact, spending time around pigs quickly makes you realise just how incredible they truly are.

They are unbelievably intelligent, emotionally aware, affectionate and full of personality. They recognise people, learn routines incredibly quickly, enjoy enrichment and interaction, and each one develops their own little quirks. Some are cheeky, some are gentle, some are dramatic, and some — like this girl — are basically oversized puppies trapped in pig form.

Watching her happily trot across the grass to greet people, snuffling around for snacks and enjoying attention, completely changes the way you see pigs. They are so much more loving and emotionally intelligent than many people realise.

Life on a smallholding is filled with moments like this — peaceful evenings in the field, muddy noses appearing from nowhere, happy little grunts, and animals reminding you daily just how special they are.

She may not have stayed “micro”… but she became something far better: deeply loved.
