Committed to Animal Welfare
At Furry Friends Animal Therapy, animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do. Every decision we make is guided by a commitment to ensuring that all of our animals are safe, comfortable, and able to take part in sessions in a way that supports their wellbeing.
Many of the animals within our care have been rescued or thoughtfully rehomed, and are provided with environments that meet their individual needs. We take great care in understanding each animal’s personality, preferences, and limitations, ensuring they are only involved in sessions that are suitable for them.
As a collective, we care for a wide range of animals; however, only a select number are chosen to take part in therapy and educational sessions. Each animal is carefully assessed based on temperament, confidence, and suitability, ensuring they are comfortable within these environments and able to engage in a positive and stress-free way.
All animals receive consistent health checks, with veterinary support where required, alongside ongoing monitoring of their behaviour and condition. Regular inspections and licensing requirements are met in line with local authority standards, ensuring we maintain high levels of care and accountability.
Our approach to husbandry is tailored to each species, including appropriate diet, enrichment, housing, and routine. We are committed to maintaining best practice standards, continually adapting and improving to meet the needs of every animal in our care.
Transport is carefully managed and maintained to a high standard, with all journeys planned and recorded to ensure the safety and comfort of the animals at all times.
We also limit the frequency of visits, typically attending sessions only once or twice per week. This ensures that all animals have adequate rest time, allowing them to recover, relax, and maintain a high standard of wellbeing outside of sessions.
During visits, animals are closely monitored, with regular breaks built in to prevent stress or fatigue. Interactions are always guided by trained handlers, ensuring they remain safe, respectful, and appropriate.
We work at the animals’ pace, not ours. Their wellbeing will always come before the session, ensuring that every interaction is positive, ethical, and supportive for both the animals and the people we work with.
