This week we had another wonderful visit to Granville Court, somewhere we’re incredibly lucky to visit every two weeks. Over time, these regular visits have allowed us to build some really special connections, and they remain a very meaningful part of what we do at Furry Friends Animal Therapy. ❤️
At Granville Court, we facilitate animal-assisted therapy sessions for individuals with profound and multiple disabilities. Every person we meet has their own individual needs, preferences and ways of communicating, and our animals give us another beautiful way of connecting with them.
One of the most powerful things these visits continue to remind us is that communication doesn’t always need words.
For someone who is unable to communicate verbally, connection can be found in so many other ways. It might be a smile when an animal comes closer, a change in facial expression, reaching out to touch soft fur, following an animal with their eyes, or simply becoming calm and settled while spending time alongside them. 🥰
These moments might appear small from the outside, but to us, they can mean everything.
Because we visit regularly, we also have the privilege of getting to know the people we support and noticing those individual responses — learning which animals they particularly enjoy spending time with and allowing each interaction to happen at their own pace.
It’s one of the many reasons we feel so fortunate to do what we do. Animals don’t expect conversation or require someone to communicate in a particular way. They simply meet people exactly where they are. ❤️🐾
And finally, a massive thank you to Carol for stepping in and helping us out this week. Your help was very much appreciated! ❤️
Another beautiful visit to Granville Court, and we’re already looking forward to seeing everyone again in two weeks. 🐾💕
