The real cost of owning animals
(it’s more than you think)
Over the next few weeks, I’m going to share a series looking at what it actually costs to care for each of our animals.
Animals can often be bought very cheaply, or even free if you rescue or rehome (which many of ours are). But let me tell you… getting them is the easy part.
It’s the long-term costs that really add up.
And it’s not just about money — it’s the time and commitment too. Early mornings, late nights, daily checks, feeding, cleaning, and being there when something isn’t quite right. They rely on you every single day, no matter what else is going on.
Before making any decisions, there’s so much to think about, ongoing care, unexpected vet bills, specialist treatments, feed, housing… the list goes on.
I’m lucky enough to have my own land, which helps reduce some of the costs, and we run Furry Friends to support their care. But the reality is, Emma and I still put a huge amount of our own money and time into making sure every animal has the best possible life.
This series is all about being open and honest — so people can see the real cost behind animal ownership and hopefully make informed choices.
